One Response to “06 Mar. 2010 Sonic Boom”

  1. This was a message from Mixtress Krikett following the breakup of Sonic Boom. I will be posting updates as the legal scenario unfolds.

“Hey all, as much as I want to just flame the hell out of what went down last night, that probably wouldn’t be a good idea.

It’s hard to be grateful when you’re handed a sucky outcome, or breathe a sigh of relief when the only thing around you is epic distress; regardless it could have been a lot worse; we were ‘shut down’, not ‘raided’; there is a HUGE difference and I can only give EVERYONE thanks and kudos for being an awesome, fun, but smart crowd, so we didn’t have to deal with the latter.

The facts (because I know there’s already probably ten million things posted everywhere)

    Nobody went to jail/prison/etc.
A friend of mine got searched, but that was because she was emotionally expressing herself. She was clean, so there.
None of the equipment/lighting was seized.
I was the only one that got fined/citation/court date. What the fine amount is, I don’t even know yet, they didn’t write it on the ticket.
They took all the door money and concession stand money. So, no, I can’t refund anyone, because they took it and it’s up to the judge when I go to court if I’ll get it back or not (let’s be realistic, prolly not).
On a positive note, they searched every corner and wall and found NO DRUGS or evidence of drugs. NONE. Nothing anywhere. I think that should stand for something (espec the police dept), at least I hope it does; great job!

I’m really sorry the most for the people that drove a long long ways to get this (I remember seeing licenses from even VA, DC, NY, and FL) and next time we’ll coordinate a hotel suite for you all to crash at should something like this ever occur again. I don’t know about re-doing or doing another time soon, I’m not a promoter full time nor do I want to be (especially in leiu with all these recent headaches); but when I do, I have the guest list of all the people that came last night (and I’ll try my best to make out the legibility… lol); so those that came last night won’t have to pay to come to the next one. If anyone has any great ideas, or a place big enough (the size of the place last night, or a little bigger) in a city nearby that’s chill enough for a reincarnation of SB (I would love to do a redo, same DJ’s, lighting, deco, etc); contact me.

I’m up for anything at this point, if you have hope for Charlotte and think together we could work and try to modify the Dance Hall Ordinance to make it a little bit more reasonable (I’m not saying get rid of it completely, but wager maybe a nightly, less expensive, easier to attain sort of thing, because upon discovery – a building dance permit costs +$3k; which as we know is a lot of money for ‘the average middle-class american’ to come up with, thus representing this rule as a little too corporatized/unfair ie only the rich being able to do/get away with what they want) but this requires respected and serious citizens and will take work, dedication, attending town meetings and et cetera, and I don’t even live in Charlotte sooo yeah (the ‘problem’ with ‘them’ is that there’s not enough of ‘us’ doing anything constructive about it) I can’t do it alone.

I tried guys, I really tried. I could either try my damn hardest for a change, or continue to be one in the crowd bitching about how things were so divided, negative, lackluster, shady, crappy, etc; I chose to do something, even if it only ultimately took a chunk out of my side. It may seem twisted, especially with the way it ended, but I feel better that I at least tried, and am truly grateful that all of you were awesome enough to come out and support the idea of such a wide range of all kinds of underground commercialized music and culture in EDM. Through this kind of unity and respect to all types of music without the stereotypes, drama, and hate; from this point things can only move forward. Thank you all. Peace.”
